Artist's Comments

This is a study of an area of valencia that I did a year or so ago on a University art trip :)
I really liked it at the time, but almost comletely forgot about it because it was buried in a random skecthbook. I finally got around to scanning it, and editing out the page fold because of my upcoming final show.
Thought I'd stick it up here....

Oh, cool, did you recognise it? :D
:iconk1lgore:
Yeah, I think is one of the streets of the historic centre of the city, a district called "El carmen"

Is it?

I can't rememeber actually ^^; I got a bit lost that day, and just decided to sit and draw until a teacher found me XD

I love the way you did this of just inking the outlines. I've done a few drawings like that but it was only the sky line and it didn't look as cool as this!
:iconspoonbard:
^_^ Thanks! It's a nice method, I find it quite a good way to describe detail. A trick I used for this one was to take my pen off the paper as little as possible.

I like the way you can see through the figures. It gives a sense of movement as if the people have come and gone already. That is one unifing thing I noticed in your work is the haunting feeling of loneliness
:iconspoonbard:
^_^ Yeah, in a sense the figures really had been and gone before I could draw them. I only got a few seconds to do each one.
Interesting what you said about my work. If there's a feeling of loneliness, it's an unintentional one. Although I must say, I love sad stories and tend to be attracted to them over happy ones :)

Very Nice work. I am blessed to have set my eyes on this peice. Even though it may just be a sketch...its flawless. I just love those packed streets with buildings towering over each side. And wires and phonelines and lights are out and about.
Just fantastic.
