FINAL ANIMATION - Rolighed by spoonbard FINAL ANIMATION - Rolighed by spoonbard
DOWNLOAD THE FULL MOVIE HERE!: [link]

It's an avi file just under 30MB and uses X-Vid compression. If you can't play it, download Div-X player for free, here: [link]

If you have problems with Div-X player, download the the VLC media player [link] This works with inbuilt codecs, so doesn't require your computer to have anything else installed on it.

Here we have it, finally! :D
The plot is an extract from 'Rolighed', a story by that we're both working on pitching to Tokyopop as a full length manga. This is a trailer of sorts for it ^_^ I'm trying to get this seen as widly as possible, so please, download it, show your friends, show your proffessional contacts, anything is a big help! If anyone wants to make a feature of it on thier website or blog, that would be fantastic as well, I just want to try and get as many people as possible to see it! ^_^

(*note, the story and concept is still at the pitching stage which means Tokyopop haven't said anything definite about wanting or not wanting it...)

Tech stuff:
Animation hand drawn in pencil coloured in Photoshop.
Backgrounds in Maya, with hand drawn textures, no lighting effects, and Toon lines for some sections.
Compositing and special effects in After Effects (the god of all programs).

EDIT: Unfortunately, the manga that I was working on, that this animation was a sort of 'trailer' for, didn't get accepted. We put so much effort into the project, and so many things went wrong that we've decided to put it on the shelf for the moment. Maybe we'll dig it out in a few years once we've gained some perspective, but for now we're working on a new project entitled 'deck' :)
Just thought I'd add this edit in case anyone was curious, since a few people have asked.

Wow, thanks!! It's been such a long time now, it feels very old to me, but it's lovely to know that it still feels fresh to watch ^_^

I love your work, and i just noticed, that this is called "Rolighed".
Now, i just felt like telling you, that in Danish, "Rolighed" means like "Calmness" : )

How do you pronounce "rolighed"?

And be aware, if you're not already, that Tokyopop can take a long time to make a call on something. Don't be discouraged if it takes several months, but don't be surprised either.

This really blew me away. The scenes where 2D turns into 3D are amazing, the faces are fantastic and the instruments look so damn good! Is it a real language they are speaking or is it made up?

I don't know how I should express myself. This is.. amazing. I remember seeing this video last year before I joined DA, I saved it to my hard disk and I still have it.
This video is close to perfect. I remember when I first downloaded this video I watched it again and again.
And after some months, I find the video and watch yet again, and it repeats itself. Every time I watch it, I find new details in the 3min 9sec long video, every time I finish watching it, deep thoughts run through my mind (as deep as it can be for a teenager like me xD ).
One of the reasons why I love this video, is because all of it is so confusing, yet it makes perfectly sense! I have so many questions and answers, it cannot fit my little head!

I am really amazed that a 22-year-old man can make something so breath-taking!

It saddened me so much that I could not find you again, when I joined DA, but finally, I randomly came to your profile, so I can write this down XD

Thank you so much for sharing.

Erm, arrrrg! It doesn't want to download. It gets to 87% each time and then says the server was reset. (I've tried three times!) Is there another place where we can get it? The stills make me antsy to see it!

aw, lame, I wonder why? Oo I'm afraid there's nowhere else to download it from, as that's the only web-space I've got. All I can suggest is giving it another try later, since soemthing may have been wrong on that particular day.

Ah! I finally got it to work :D When it got stuck at the same spot, I hit "cancel" and then quickly reselected "save as" again. It started saving from the spot it was stck in and finally gathered the whole thing. The problem was, it kept resetting the connection, but I still don't know why.

Anyways, lovely! Wow! You guys certainly put so much work into that. I really do hope that you can work on that story someday. It's just too intruigueing!

:D question have you used 3d softwares to guide the perspective-->the bridge scene wowed me!!

:iconspoonbard:
spoonbard Featured By Owner Nov 10, 2006  Professional General Artist
^__^ Thanks so much! Yeah, I used maya in order to construct most of the backgrounds, including the bridge. I think it's most evident in that scene, because of the extreme camera sweep.
I also used maya on the corridor of fingers, and the room in the last section. All the textures were hand-done, and the 'pencil' lines were generated using mayas toon shader, and then played around with in after effects.

^__^ Thanks!!
I used photoshop, after effects, and maya. All of the character drawing was done by hand, scanned, then coloured in photoshop and compositied in after effects. The backgrounds were modelled in 3D on maya with hand drawn textures, and computer generated toon lines that I overlayed with a pencil texture.
