Hey ^__^ This is a preview page from Falling Star, my entry into the Rising Stars of Manga UK competition.
*EDIT* I can't belive that I won, it still hasn't fully sink in. For those of you who are interested in reading the full thing, you can pre-order the book from amazon ^___^ It seems like it'll be available in both the Uk and the US, score!
To me its a beautiful manga story. The parts showing trains reminds of my recent relationship that didn't last, cos I had to travel by train a lot to see him. The detail is just stunning. I found it quite emotional, showing he was in a relationship that falls apart (I think thats right?) I like the idea of the rough panel outlines, its seems to give a feel softness.
Well done on a great manga, congrats on your win and good luck for the future.
^_^ Thank you so much! It's lovely to hear what you thought about the story!
In the end, I kept the relationship between them quite loose and open to interpretation... It was built up out of my own experiences (a relationship at a distance, like yours for example), and the difficulties I've faced in relationships, but still kept vague so that people could relate thier own experiences to it as well.
Thanks once again!
Very interesting page and wonderful drawing style. I'll be watching for that book, although I don't understand why is your style included in "manga"? It doesn't look like japanese style. Congrats for winning.
^___^ Thanks so much! Hmm... not an easy question to answer. I did go through a very generically anime phase in my development as a comic artist, and what I took out of it was less of a style and more of a method of observation. So the figure work is inspired by a sort of 'manga way of seeing'. Plus my layouts and pacing are almost 100% manga influenced I'm into a more obscure side of manga though, so a lot of the time what I think of when I say manga isn't the same as other people's.
congratulations on winning! I know a few of the winners myself...i loved their storys, and this looks excellent, so im looking forward to the release of the anthology =3 Im glad you won first place, because from this page I think Im in for an interesting story with lovely art! ^_^ after reding some of the US books, I was worried that the first prize winner might be some bad mediocer story line which only has nice art, but this looks excellent, I know I wont be dissapointed!
