Another Happy Kitty pinup/cover for Christos Gage's upcoming Absolution series, published by Avatar :)
This one took about a day solid to do, I mocked it up simply in 3D using 3D studio max, and used a render as a skeleton from which to create the rough, which was then printed out and pencilled over, scanned back in and coloured on photoshop, using composited photographic textures for the tatami mats.
The sword is reference from my very own iaito (although mine has a black handle).

It really annoys me how there's no choice for 'covers' under the comic & manga section. In fact, devart's whole inflexible categorisation system annoys me. I wish they just had selectable keywords for content, style and medium.

Love it! Really hope Absolution sells well so we can get a Happy Kitty mini out of you guys. And I say that without having even read Absolution yet (waiting on my LCS to get it in)... I just really like the character design and name.

wow, that's a hell of a lot of work non-artists don't notice when they see something like this. Why did you 3d it- you're normally very good at proportion and all that.

Nice work :D

:) Thanks! Speed is the answer really, I needed to finish the picture quickly for a deadline, and it takes a long time to get something like this right without reference.

A pretty awesome cover. I hadn't heard of Absolution, but I might have to check it out.

I know what you mean with the "inflexible categorisation system". I usually just give up and file it under miscellanious. :P

This looks absolutely wonderful. :3
