Rolighed by spoonbard Rolighed by spoonbard
This is a conceptual mock-up of a still from my final animation project :) The whole thing will hopefully look something like this (but better :D ). It also happens to be a short chunk from the storyline I'm working on with ~kandinsky-prince that we've submitted to Tokyopop as a full length pitch. I added the typography to make it look a little more like a poster :D :D

I enjoy the pale color scheme this has. It reminds me of watercolor, somewhat. And although the hand is very surreal, it also looks like it belongs there (as if giant hands are commonly found in grasslands). Gotta wonder how you managed that.

I didn't notice at first how the clothing fades into existence. That's a really cool effect, especially since I had to stare at it a while before I got it.

^_^ thanks! The idea is that the surroundings, and the image of the person are all sort of a mental projection. So it's literally like a map of the brain of the character in image (sortof XD). It's a shame I had to scrap this image during production, I would have really liked to include it in the final piece.

:D :D Thanks! I'm mildly obsessed with the drawing of hands. And with hands in general, they're such amazing things!

I KNOW!! I didn't realize what beautiful things they were until I had to try to draw them. Ever since, I'm a hand FREAK!

^___^ I can tell you have the hand bug, since you draw them awsomely!! :D Have you ever read white fang? There's this bit near the beginning where this guy's in the extreme cold and snow, and he just stops to admire how amazing hands are X3 <3

Lol no I haven't! Cool stuff :) Yeah, my hands were pure crap until a light turned on a little under a year ago. Hands are such complicated creatures.

Ahh so I guess the 3D hand will be connected to this then? I like weird/surreal things like this - it's a good idea! I like it! I wouldn't mind seeing more of Rolighed! :)

Yeah :D The background for this is going to be 3D, and the hand will have a painted texture on to make it look like this, but in 3D

That's great. I love the surreal theme and the colouring. And that's actually a Danish word, very fitting for the image but surprising.

:) Yeah, the word is intentional. It's the name of the house in which hans Christian Anderson died, and I think it means silence/calm/quiet? The story we're working on is based on a Hans Christian Anderson story, and one of the themes is silence ^__^ Rolighed is the title.

Ah, of course, H.C. Andersens house! :-) Forgot it was named like that, but it's often used as name for houses and is a last name as well. Yes, it's a somewhat older form of "rolig" and it means calm/quiet/peaceful. It fits the piece perfectly.

:D Cool, glad you like the name. I was always a bit unsure about it since the intended audience is english and it's quite hard to pronounce. I feel more certain of it if a danish speaker likes it ^_^

Yes, from what I see here, I think it fits. I see harmony, calmness and peace, that goes well with the meaning. Rolig is more quiet, peaceful and subdued than silence in itself. But I understand why you would be uncertain, it's not an easy word for English people.

Ha ha, likewise. :D Yeah, from what I see here, I think the word fits the theme and it makes sense to me. But I understand if you could feel uncertain about using a foreign word as a title.

Actually man, this looks freaking awesome ....

It's _incredible_ how different things looks when they've been realised on paper, you know? I remember ... *hands Paul a Wurther's Original* ... I remember, back the first time I made a character "speak" on paper, from a script. It was really odd! It's _always_ SO different ... 99% of the time it was always good too! It's where scripts just really come onto their own and do what they're supposed to do ... it's odd, I can think of a few characters I disliked in words and then ended up loving them on paper, and vice versa.

Personally, although this is a mock-up, I think En looks too masculine, actually ... I think you could just get away with drawing somebody who actually just looked like a girl, you know? :/

And EWWWWWWWw the skin EWWWWWWW :XD: although that was my mind who barfed that one :XD: <- (is stupid)

Yeah, it's so odd! Even I wasn't sure totally about this idea until I finally managed to draw it properly. I agree with you on En looking too boyish. I'll feminsie him a bit :D

Jaja, now I've seen this, it works really well. When you described it before I thought you were just going to have some hand sticking out of the floor like some ... I don't know, giant trying to get out of his grave XD I thought it might have been a bit Monty Python's foot, you know? This works in terms of what else happens in the story a lot as well.

Yeah give him tits or something.

:XD: Sorry that was a bit flippant :XD: :XD: I mean, if he looks too obviously like a boy it'll be boring, huahaha. What you had going before was cool. Mix that with this? P.S. Any advance on Trent R. and Jeff B. having babies yet? @@

And it came out very nice. Love the soft shading especcially on the hand. Nice plain and simply, but also intricate fused with the lineart

Clever concept. The colouring and surreal theme reminds me of Kingdom of The Wicked but this has softer tones.
