How To Draw v1.3Part 1: What is Drawing?

This is how I've come to understand the act of drawing. It’s best to first set the semantics (the specific meaning of the words) straight, so there are no crossed purposes.

By 'drawing' I mean loosely the act of making visually representative marks on a surface.

Anyone can draw. Anyone can attempt to recreate what they see in front of them - or a scene they imagine - by making marks on a piece of paper. If you hear someone say "I can't draw", slap them for me. As long as they have a moving part to which a pencil can be taped, they can draw.

Here's an illustrative I've done for my mum's birthday in a few days

I figured it'd be nice to give her an original work.
It's my nameless guy once more, from the wordless comic I'm writing. I think I might end up making this the basis of one of the pages.
I'll be interested to see if the idea comes across okay ^_^ What do people think is going on?

As I haven't read the wordless short comic, here's my stab at the story: The train symbolises the monotony of mundane life while his backpack represents his desire to escape it. The train is floating and invisible, which is otherworldly enough, but because he's sleeping, he's missing this. In other words, there is wonder in his world, it just continually evades him.

The landscape also represents the things he dreams of as an escape from his life, or in this case the things he's escaping to, because the story's about him running away.
