A message to all Americans...
Please, please, please vote. I personally feel completely helpless sitting in the UK, while in America preparations are being made for an election that could well decide the course of world history over the coming years and maybe decades. This is possibly one of the most important elections ever, being the start of decisions on issues of collapsing global economy, impending climate change and escalating war and terrorism, and only registered Americans can make a difference.
Normally I'd stay politely politically neutral here, but I can't keep my mouth shut... if you're considering voting McCain, please, think.
EDIT: Okay, a quick step backwards here. I stated my views very strongly and just assumed that people would ask me for evidence like I suggested, and for that, my apologies. It seems some people with republican views have assumed I was insulting all individual republicans, rather than pointing out a shared trait that a lot of republicans in office betray, or at least use as a political tool. It was my intention however, to get people talking and sharing ideas, and I'm glad that's happened. I won't hold back any of my own opinions, but neither will I censor or simply refuse to listen to the opinions of others, so please continue the discussion, and defend your corner with everything you've got. All's fair in internetz and argumentz.
The Obama campaign has set up a great tool that lets you figure out whether you are already registered, and if not, prints out a form you can mail in to do so:
For those who cant make it to a polling station on Election Day, deadlines are very fast approaching for absentee voting.
Long Distance Voting
And theres nothing stopping you from absentee voting even if you could vote in person on Election Day; if youre feeling motivated right now but might be lazy on November 4, why not vote right away?
THERE IS NO EXCUSE NOT TO VOTE. It doesn't matter if all you're choosing between is the lesser of two evils, that's still more choice than none. It doesn't matter if you don't believe in the system, since until you change things it's the only system of free choice you have. If you don't want to vote because you don't understand what's going on, then educate yourself. You have the world's knowledge at your fingertips, and only laziness or contrariness as an excuse. Anyone confused can start here by asking me some important questions, and I'll send you to some good sources. Anyone considering voting for McCain, please debate your choice with me. If I'm helpless to actually vote, the least I can do is maybe help a few more people vote or know what they're truly voting for.
Your vote is your voice, and if you choose silence you put yourself at the mercy of anyone louder than you.

Heh heh heh. Moo.. XD Naruto Abridged.
And its nice to know that people outside of the US care so much about our elections. I think more and more people are also seeing how erratic McCain is. There's still a month to go, but if Obama keeps things up~ the election should go in his favor.

PEANUT BUTTER DOES A BODY GOOD.
If you can't vote, do what I'm trying to! Make it your task to educate some people who might make the wrong choice, or who might not vote at all!

But at least it's the smart portion?

Argument is the only way to better understand your OWN beliefs.
Unfortunatly, unless theres some kind of Revolution, I really think there are hard times ahead for Americans, and its there own Governments fault, the bailout was a joke, 80 percent opposed it in the country and yet teh government are bailing out the people who got the country into the mess in the first place.
I also think it a distinct possibility that the elections will be postponed, Bush and Cheney have some more havoc to wreak yet.
If I had one message it would be this, WRITE IN RON PAUL.

Everyone Is Connected
Nonsense. Republicans believe in the republic - that states should have more power. Democrats believe in a democracy - that the federal government should have more power. The major difference between the two parties is the fact that democrats like to spend more money and legislate on more things. (Gawd, the outside view of politics in America is twisted. It amazes me.)
Republicans are not right wing, democrats are not left wing. That's not how it works, unlike England. (Proof of the pudding - there are currently adverts running in our area for a senator who describes herself as a 'conservative democrat' - which essentially means she's the worst of all possible worlds. A biblical literalist who thinks the federal government should be even bigger and more dictate-y to states. Lovely. (If I had a vote, she wouldn't be getting mine.)
(The most amazing bit is, lots of Americans don't understand that either.)
Personally, I wouldn't vote for either of them. Palin fundamentally scares me - not sure why. (By the way, her views of things like abortion or gay marriage are completely irrelevant. The president and vice don't make laws. And this sort of thing wouldn't be made into law at capitol hill anyway. It's outside congress' scope of power.) Obama is an idealist - reminds me a lot of Tony Blair. He talks a good talk, but with the economy tanking as it is, he'll find the classic democratic government (lets spend lots of money!!!) impossible to run - because there is none. Because they spend $700 billion dollars bailing out failing businesses. Because that' a good idea. Besides, a lot of the things Obama promises he'll do are either impossible, unconstitutional or both. He's rather naive and if he gets voted in, nothing will happen - because he'll quickly realise that president does not mean superman, god of the world. It's just '
But like I said, I wouldn't vote for either of them. If I had the vote (and I will in a few short years - in time for the next election) I'll be voting third party.

Alaka-bee-weeoop! Old school.
As Spoonbard said- the point is that you DO vote. No offense, but in this country the independent party won't win anytime soon. I'm not saying settle but... if you have the power to be heard then you should be. Voting is more important than a lot of people think- it lets you be heard in the government.
But really- you are fortunate to have a voice, in some countries the people have no voice to be heard. I think that many American's need to realize that. (not saying that you don't!)
